Covid Response Communication 9

Dear Parents, Carers and Staff

Please find attached a letter detailing the new COVID Response for Schools that commenced earlier today.

Congratulations Newborough on the magnificent way everyone has embraced and supported the school, students, staff and community during this very difficult time. I am continually amazed by how steady and calm our school is and how everyone has embraced the focus on student learning and wellbeing. It really has been a team effort by everyone, something we need to continue. Thank you.

The removal of mandatory mask wearing and relaxation of the density and capacity limits is very welcome. Most pleasing is that this will allow us to re-open the school to parents/carers and volunteers. Rather than rush straight to completely opening up immediately I have called a special staff meeting for next Tuesday after school to work out our preferred approaches ensuring a smooth restart. We will discuss topics including:
• How we celebrate the return of school community into our school (and winning the battle of COVID-19)
• Assemblies
• After School Play
• Parent/Carer pick up/drop off during class time
• Parents/carers in classrooms before school
• Volunteers in classrooms

Once we have met as a staff I will announce our approach to welcoming everyone back. This will be featured in our first newsletter for the term that will go out on either Wednesday or Thursday in week two (Next week).

I am really pleased to announce that our wonderful Choirs will commence before school practice starting next week.
• Junior Training Choir Years 1-3 on Tuesday mornings 8am – 8:30am (entry from Mulberry gate from 7:55am)
• Senior Performance Choir Years 4-6 on Wednesday mornings 7:45am – 8:30am (entry from Mulberry gate from 7:40am)

We still need to be cautious as COVID is present in our community. This does cause some nervousness and anxiety. Please maintain the excellent standard of hygiene including social distancing, staying home if sick, washing hands and coughing into a bent elbow.

Reporting COVID to school has changed somewhat. If a child has a positive test for COVID or is a household close contact, please let me know ASAP. These are recorded and positive cases reported to WA Health/Education.

I do have a supply of RAT kits available at school. If you require any please let me know. They are free.

Take care
