Principal’s Introduction

Tree Planting Schedule Friday 19th August (Kindy Red on Thursday)

You may have noticed a flurry of action around the Nature Playground over the last week or so. Our new Gardner Riley Major has busy preparing the planting areas for our Queen’s Jubilee Tree Planting activity on Friday 19th August. Each class will plant four Banksias in their designated area. We have learned from last year and will put solid tree guards, a temporary fence, plenty of mulch and drip feed reticulation to our new trees once the planting has been completed. Parents and carers are welcome to pop by and see their child’s class plant their trees.

Djilba (Noongar Season) Growing season (season of conception) August - September

Djilba season is a time to look for the yellow and cream flowers starting on mass.

Djilba is a transitional time of the year, with some very cold and clear days combining with warmer, rainy and windy days mixing with the occasional sunny day or two.

This is the start of the massive flowering explosion that happens in the South West. This starts with the yellow flowering plants such as the Acacias. Also colours that are around at this time of year are creams, combined with some vivid and striking blues.

Traditionally, the main food sources included many of the land based grazing animals as in the season before. These included the Yongar (kangaroo), the Waitj (emu) and the Koomal (possum).

As the days start to warm up, we start to see and hear the first of the new borns with their proud parents out and about providing them food, guiding them through foraging tasks and protecting their family units from much bigger animals, including people.

The woodland birds will still be nest bound, hence the swooping protective behavior of the Koolbardi (Magpie) starts to ramp up and if watched closely, so do the Djidi Djidi (Willy Wag Tails) and the Chuck-a-luck (Wattle Birds) to name a couple of others.

As the season progresses and the temperatures continue to rise, we'll start to see the flower stalks of the Balgas (Grass Trees) emerging in preparation for the coming Kambarang season.

STUDENT UPDATE FORMS

Student update forms were sent home with your child this week. Please edit these forms, if necessary, and return them to your child’s classroom teacher by Friday 19th August even if there are no changes.

It’s important that we have the correct information for your child on our school database, should we need to contact you at any time and particularly if your child’s health circumstances have changed.

If you have misplaced this form, please let your teacher or the office know and we will print out a new one.

Parent/Carers Pick Up and Drop Off Changes

Now that COVID restrictions have lifted we are changing the process to allow Parents/Carers to drop off library bags, hats, lunchboxes etc. to classrooms/students/bags. Parents/Carers sign in at the front office on Passtab (will be given a Visitor sticker to wear), drop the item off to their child’s class, and then sign out from Passtab at the front office.

Parents/Carers continue to advise teachers and the front office via email for pick up for appointments etc. so children can be made ready and on time. Parents/Carers sign the child out at the front office, will be given a ‘Sign Out’ card (to hand to the classroom or specialist teacher so they know the student has been signed out), and then go to the classroom to pick up their child.

The new process will commence at the start of term three. This process will reduce the need for staff to bring children to the office for collection. It will also reduce the number of children waiting in the office corridor.

Year 6 Fete

Interschool Cross Country

On Friday 5th of August, we had 36 runners represent Newborough Primary at the Interschool Cross Country. The event was held at Butlers Reserve in Scarborough, and we were lucky to have dry weather for the event. We would like to congratulate all the students on both their performance and their behaviour on the day. All the runners put in such a great effort and challenged themselves to do their best, even on the steep hills. We had the perfect spot at the top to cheer on team members, which was great to see and hear! Special mention to top three placements go to the following students:

Frankie D Year 3 Boys 1st Place
Ryder S Year 5 Boys 3rd Place
Michelle O Year 6 Girls 2nd Place
Cambell W Year 6 Boys 3rd Place

ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCES

Department of Education (Western Australia) policy states that all children from Pre Primary attend school for 5 full days as from the commencement of the school year.

Attendance details are entered electronically twice daily by classroom teachers and the information fed onto a school database. An SMS messaging service endorsed by the Department of Education operates to enable parents to inform the school by text message if their child is going to be absent. The system also automatically sends a message to parents if their child has not arrived at school and no notification has been received. This service assists parents to advise the school of absences and also ensures the safety of children by letting parents know that the child has not arrived at school.

Please include a reason for early pick up and the approximate time you will be here. This will help with coordinating your child to be waiting at the office when you arrive and lessen your wait time

EXCURSIONS AND INCURSIONS

During the year teaching staff plan a range of suitable excursions and incursions to introduce, develop or reinforce learning experiences for their class.

Incursions are an opportunity for the children to experience high standard performances covering a wide range of learning areas. The children are able to see national, and sometimes international, performers including musicians, storytellers, artists and many others at a reasonable cost. Particular attention is given to developing the social skills of the children, as well as their confidence and independence.

Formal written permission is required before any child can be taken on an excursion. Every endeavour is made to space excursions/incursions during the year to avoid costs being too great at any one time. If payment is not received by the due date and a payment plan has not been entered into, students will not participate in that particular excursion/incursion and will join a buddy class on that day.

MONEY COLLECTION

When paying for incursions, excursions, or other school activities, please pay via direct deposit into the school bank. Newborough Primary School does not accept cash payments.

Money can be paid by online banking (please include your child’s surname and incursion/excursion name as reference). eg K Smith Edu-dance. Our school bank details are:

Uniform Shop News

The Uniform Shop is having an online sale!!!!!!

The school and P&C are looking at options to outsource the uniform shop to an external uniform supplier. We will still run a second hand shop at school.

Currently we are greatly over stocked in some items/colours/styles, and are having an online sale to reduce our stock levels.

See if you can grab a bargain in your child's size. These items will say "SALE ITEM" and are limited.

  • Due to supplier issues during covid some faction shirts are in a slightly different shade these are the ones on sale. All are still school uniform however at a much reduced price!
  • We have some of the very popular microfibre shorts and the A-Line sports skorts on sale due to carrying too much stock but it's first in as numbers are limited! Maybe think ahead to next year too.
  • If your child feels the cold there are a limited number of size 4 long sleeve gold polo shirts (can be worn for PP and year 1). Also available are some long sleeve size 6 kindy shirts.
  • Due to excess stock in some sizes you might score a discounted microfibre jacket, or trackie pants, great for cooler Spring temperatures (please note that not all sizes will be reduced in this item). Think ahead to next winter and stock up.
  • There are also some plain green skorts (similar design to the tartan skort) available on sale.

All available to order via Quickcliq. The uniform shop will be open for sales and second hand items next Tuesday 12th August 8:10-8:50am but will be CLOSED on the following Tuesday 19th August.

Any question email: newboroughuniforms@gmail.com

Thank you
