Principal’s Introduction

Seussical Jr. What a Performance!

“Amazing!” “Brilliant.” “I can’t believe how fantastic all the children performed. They were sensational.” What an effort by the whole school! I’m blown away.” “That Music teacher is unbelievably good getting so many kids involved at such a high level.” “What a great team putting all this together.” “As Principal, you must be so proud Mr Worthy.” (And I am, indeed I am, Green Eggs and Ham)

These were just some of the comments made to me as very happy parents, grandparents, siblings and friends left the Churchlands Concert Hall after the first performance of Seussical Jr, our 2019 School Musical.

One of our school values is Teamwork. Didn’t that show through? From the superb performance of the main cast who not only performed brilliantly they lead the way by example for all the performers. Every child from years 3-6 has had the opportunity to perform and have important and engaging roles. The costumes and sets are stunningly good and so effective. The comradery was really evident after the show as the cast congratulated each other and shared their enjoyment about their quality performance. One staff member, who has been involved in all the recent Musical Performances from the school, mentioned how fantastic all the performers were back stage. They were enthusiastic, cooperative and very respectful waiting for their various parts. Once on stage they shone. All the school values came through.

Behind the scenes, in the build-up and supporting our performers is an army of wonderful helpers. Every teacher and Education Assistant in the school will be involved in helping at the Concert Hall. Most on both nights. We also had great support from our non-teaching staff as well. How many other schools get that level of support from staff? We also have a large group of very supportive parents and volunteers who helped in so many different ways. It would be remiss of me to mention these now as there are so many and I would surely miss some out. A thank you list can be found on the back of the Musical Program. Of course one person who has brought all this together and lead the way is our wonderful Music and Performing Arts teacher, Mrs Andria Snelson. Her energy, enthusiasm and engaging teaching talents really stand out. Her ability to enthuse, connect and get everyone working is phenomenal.

I can’t wait for tonight’s performance to see so many happy and satisfied children, parents and staff enjoy the second performance. Great effort Newborough!!

Christmas Presents

A lot is said about the importance of reading books. I encourage every parent to ask Santa to put at least one book in every child’s Christmas stocking. Book vouchers can also be a good idea as they require a visit to a book shop and for choices to be made. “Reading is Brainfood.”

Newborough School Board Election Results

The School Board recently conducted elections for parent representatives to fill two vacancies. There were four high quality nominations. Jason Davis, Ian Garrett, Krys Hiscock and Cameron Leckey. Both Ian and Krys renominated for the Board. This year we had a record number of voters with 35 voters.

Jonathon Miller from Liza Harvey’s Office conducted the count and validated votes from our parent list.

Thank You
Administration Staff

Late Pick up of Students

We have an increasing number of students waiting to be picked up at the end of the school day and more so on Tuesday afternoons.

This is a reminder that school finishes on Tuesday afternoons at 2.30pm.

If you are not here on time to pick up your child on any school day, they are required to present themselves at the school office, where the office staff will then contact their parents.

Please be aware ALL students are required to be supervised by their parents in the playground after school.

Collecting Students during school hours

Parents/guardians are reminded that if they are collecting students during school time they are required collect a sign out pass and provide this to their child’s teacher from the front office. We do this for safety, security and accountability for student wellbeing.

Reporting to Parents

Reporting to Parents – Electronic Report Delivery Semester 2, 2019

As per last semester, Newborough Primary School will again be delivering your child’s Semester 2 school report via email on Monday 16th December 2019 (Week 10, Term 4)

The benefits of an electronic report provide advantages for schools and the parent community including:

  • timely delivery of reports to parents and guardians;
  • administrative savings in the printing and collation of reports;
  • an ability to easily provide copies of reports to each parent or guardian where dictated by family circumstances; and
  • parents being able to retain a digital record of student achievement. However, as the link to the reports only lasts for four weeks, it is vitally important that parents SAVE their child’s report ASAP.

To ensure you again receive your child’s report, it is imperative that your email address is correct with the school. If there have been any changes to your email/email addresses, please contact the school immediately.

We have also asked that for the purpose of different family circumstances, anyone requesting a copy of the report be sent to a second family member inform the school in writing via newborough.ps@education.wa.edu.au immediately please. If you have already done this, this information will automatically be saved for this semester.

Please do not hesitate to contact Deputy Principal Karen Tucknott with any queries about the delivery of the reports electronically.

Booklist Help

Hi Parents,

The school booklists are a really great fundraiser for our P&C with the added benefit that it saves us all from trawling the aisles of Officeworks with all other Perth parents during the summer holidays! Yay!

However, unfortunately we haven't yet worked out how to get the booklists to pack themselves, so thats where you may come in... It's actually pretty fun, time goes quickly, and it's a great way to help out and get your volunteering in for 2020!

Booklist Packing Day will be Friday 17th January starting by 9am until we are done

(start time confirmed once we know how many volunteers we have, as we might work in shifts).

We would love lots of help to make it a quick and seamless process. Especially helpful will be those who have assisted before and know the ropes but new volunteers are definitely welcome and needed!

Booklist Pick-Up day will be Friday 31st January 9-11am in the library.

We also require volunteers for this day. This involves checking off students names as they collect their bundle of goods.

If you are able to assist please email Karen Winton (booklist co-ordinator) as soon as possible.

The shop is only open for 4 more Tuesdays as our last day is Tuesday 10th December. We are also open 9am-11am Friday 31st January 2020 . This day is extremely busy with long queues but if you pre-order and pay via bank deposit before the end of January, you can skip the queue by collecting your uniform order along with your books.

Volunteers

Without our volunteers the uniform shop cannot run so please help if you can. Enquiries to newboroughuniforms@gmail.com

Uniform Opening Hours

Uniform shop is open Tuesdays 8 - 845 am. Alternatively you can pay via bank deposit into the P&C account and email me your order. I’ll deliver the order to your child’s classroom.

For out of hours, please email through your order and it will be delivered to class after payment is received to the P& C account. newboroughuniforms@gmail.com.

Help Desperately Needed

The number of Canteen orders are ever increasing . Thank you to the Year 6 and Pre-Primary Parents and Grandparents for helping us on your rostered weeks. A special thanks goes to our resident volunteer Frank (who usually helps out in the garden) for putting his Italian cooking skills to much needed use in the Canteen.

We are always in need of any assistance parents/grandparents can provide. Even if you have an hour to spare we'd very much appreciate your time. It's a nice environment, no experience necessary and you'll be well supported so there's no need to feel anxious.

Safety House

Newborough Primary School has been a proud supporter of the Safety House Program in our community for many years. We currently have 9 safety houses in our neighbourhoodFEELING UNSURE? KNOCK ON A SAFETY HOUSE DOOR!

Are you interested in safety for kids in your local community? It’s easy to help and you could make a difference.

Safety House is a community based “Good Neighbour” program of volunteer householders organised by a local Safety House Coordinator. It’s easy to be a Safety House, it will cost you very little for a 3 year Working with Children Card and you could be doing something important to help protect vulnerable young children. The program is supported by the school and the local Parents Association. You can make a difference for kids in your local community.

WHO CAN BE A SAFETY HOUSE?

A Safety Householder must be a caring adult who is usually in or around their home during school travel times and be ready and willing to assist any child who might seek help at their door. This is to make sure that a child in need will find someone at home if they knock on the Safety House door for help. Your house must have easy street access to the front door, no screening walls or trees and a Safety House sign easily visible from the street. If you have a dog it should be secured behind a fence at the rear of the building or be kept under control in the house.

This is to make sure that a young child will be able to find the Safety House door easily and will not be frightened away.

Before you can be a Safety House, any eligible adult who is likely to help a child at the door must have a valid Working with Children Card. Also everyone living in the house aged fourteen and over must consent to having a continuously monitored police check which is fully paid for by Safety House. Your local Safety House Committee will help you fill out a simple Safety House WA application form. We need to make sure that anyone who might answer the door at a Safety House has been carefully checked out.

For further information please fill in the coupon below and leave it at your local School Office or you can contact the Safety House Head Office direct by email at safety@safetyhousewa.org.au and our website is on the link below.
