Update from Principal
Welcome back!
Dear Families,
Welcome to Term Three! I cannot believe how quickly the year is flying by and that we are now in Semester Two of the school year. We have a very busy term ahead with the Interschool Cross country, Faction Carnival, Interschool Athletics Carnival, assemblies, the Enterprise Fete, Science Week and much more. I know the students and staff are very excited about these events and I am equally excited as I experience these things for the first time at Newborough PS.
Staff Update
We have had a few staff changes this term and I would like to welcome back our existing staff and welcome our new staff to the team at Newborough PS.
- Firstly, we welcome Mrs Maribel Ward who joins us as our new substantive Deputy Principal. We also welcome other new staff, including Mrs Sheliece Morris who has taken up the role of the Year 5/6 teacher in Room 17, Ms Sanela (Sunny) Rovasanin who joins our team as a Mainstream and Special Needs Education Assistant and Mrs Chantel Gouges who will be working as a School Officer. We welcome back Mrs Ingrid Shaw and Ms Naomi Ball who officially join our team as Special Needs Education Assistants, Mrs Pip Murdoch who joins our Kindy team as the Kindy teacher on Fridays and Ms Meagan MacKenzie who will be returning as one of our School Officers.
- On another note, Mrs Emily Anderson will be teaching Kindy Red and Kindy Green this term while Mrs Bev Thornett is on leave.
Casual Fridays
Starting this term, each Friday our staff only will be participating in Casual Fridays. This is a way for us to give back to a charity that our staff feel passionate about whilst getting to wear our jeans on a Friday. This term, Ms Watson has chosen a charity very dear to her, being the Shenton Park Dogs Refuge Home https://www.dogshome.org.au/dogs/. Every Friday staff will donate a gold coin for the right to wear their jeans to work. Every term we will let you know our charity of choice.
Meet and Greet
Mrs Maribel Ward and I would like to extend an invitation to all parents and carers to join us for a Meet and Greet session on Tuesday 30 July at 2pm in the undercover area. Whilst I have met some families, there are still many faces I do not know and this meeting will give both Maribel and I a chance to formally introduce ourselves to the community as well as talk about our passion for education and a little more about ourselves. We hope to see many families join us for this Meet and Greet.
Preparing for 2025
It is getting to the time of year when we start to project our numbers for 2025. Please, if you are not intending on returning in 2025, let the office know at your earliest convenience.
Dress Code Policy
We have started to notice quite a few students who are wearing jewellery to school including bracelets, bangles, and necklaces. We have also started to see non-uniform jumpers and shirts being worn. As per our Dress Code Policy (see link below), we are starting to give students friendly reminders about the policy and may ask students to remove jewellery that is not in line with the policy. We thank you for your support of our policy and your understanding as to why some of these items are not appropriate for school.

Sports Update
Winter Lightning Carnival
On Friday 7th June, selected students in Years 5 and 6 participated in the annual Ocean Net Sports Association Lightning Carnival. This year, we entered 2 Netball teams and 2 Soccer teams. All Netball games were played at Yuluma Primary School and all Soccer games were played at Doubleview Primary School.
Students enjoyed their day of competition which resulted in some fantastic achievements amongst the teams. We placed 2nd in the Netball and 4th in the Soccer. Well done, to all students on their amazing sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the day.
Thank you to our Newborough Primary School staff Mr Blanch, Ms Phillips, Ms Cockroft, Ms Berti and Mrs Ganapathy for their help on the carnival day, as well as during our Friday afternoon sport sessions in the lead up to the carnival.
Thank you also to the parents and family members who came to the games to support the students.
A special and huge thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to assist with refereeing and coaching. Without your assistance we are unable to provide these experiences for our students. Thank you:
- Blanche Blakeney for coaching the Netball
- John De Leo for refereeing the Soccer
- Michael Roberts for refereeing the Soccer
Term Two Run Club – Year 3 to Year 6
As our Term Two Run Club draws to a close, I wanted to say thank you to all of the students who participated. We had approximately 60 students turn up bright and early every Thursday morning, ready to run. It was great to see everyone so happy, positive and enthusiastic about running and ready to work hard to prepare for the cross country.
Once again, this would not be possible without our amazing parents who assist and run with the students every morning. Thank you:
- Blanche Blakeney
- Rohan Carly
- John De Leo
- Michelle Mac Siomoin
- David Shepherd
Faction Cross Country Carnival
Our Year 1 to 6 Faction Cross Country Carnival was held on Tuesday 25th June and we were blessed with some beautiful sunny weather.
All of the preparation and training done during our Physical Education lessons and Thursday morning Run Club definitely paid off. There were some amazing results across all year levels. Well done, to everyone on challenging yourself and for demonstrating amazing sportsmanship.
Congratulations, to all of our place getters and to ALL students who participated, earning points for their Faction:
1st | Manning | 244 Points |
2nd | Corbett | 231 Points |
3rd | Connor | 186 Points |
Thank you to all of our wonderful Newborough Primary School staff and school community for making this day possible!
Faction Athletics Carnival – Save the Date
The Faction Athletics Carnival will be held at Newborough Primary School on Friday 9 August (Term 3 Week 4)
The Carnival will now be held on one day and will include sprints, jumps, throws, long distance and tabloid activities.
More information will be distributed early in Term 3.
Pyjama Day
On Friday 21st June, we had an enjoyable day celebrating the Winter Solstice in our warm and comfy pyjamas. Everyone got into the spirit and there were an amazing assortment of pyjamas and onesies on display. It was also a celebration for our PBW program as every class had earned their 400 goldies and celebrated their class pass!! Well done for showing the Newborough Way 4800 times. With the Winter Solstice over we can look forward to our mornings getting lighter.
P&C News
Canteen
Reminder there is no canteen in Term Three until further notice.
Newbro Dads
Wow, we are halfway through the school year already. As we enjoy a bit of rain for a change it means the wetlands and rivers around Perth are flowing and filling. The birds are building their nests and the frogs are laying eggs. This term, we will run our very popular Night Walk in September. The kids have a great time searching for spiders, frogs, owls, fungi and possums. If you would like to assist with this event, please come along to our next catch-up to discuss the date and activities. We will also be discussing the Camp Out and any other ideas for the Newbros.
The P&C are organising a sausage sizzle for the sports faction carnival on Friday 9th August. We need volunteers to cook snags and help out. If you can get some time off to help, please contact Laurie, our awesome P&C President!! President@newbourghpc.org.au
So the next Newbros meeting is on Saturday 27th July at the Scarborough Sports Club from 6pm. Come down for a chat, a meal and a drink and be a part of your school dad community.
