YEAR 6 CAMP
Congratulations to all of Year 6 students who attended the Year 6 camp this week at Camp Kerem in Bullsbrook. From all reports, the camp was very successful and there were many very tired, but happy, students yesterday afternoon when they returned from the camp. Thank you so much to Mrs Phillips, Mr Pemberton, Miss Cockroft, Mrs Ganapathy and Miss Fraser for attending the camp and giving our students this opportunity. Thank you also to our two wonderful parent volunteers, Wade Freeman and Andrew McGuckin for also attending. Your time was greatly appreciated.
EDU-DANCE CONCERTS
Families, thank you for your support of the Edu-dance program. Students are having a great time learning their dance routines for the concerts.
There will be 4 concerts.
Kindy Green: Wednesday 12th June 9.00-9.30am in the Undercover Area. (Week 9)
Kindy Red: Thursday 13th June 9.00-9.30am in the Undercover Area (Week 9)
The Pre-primary – Year 6 Concerts will be held over two afternoons in Week 10 also in the Undercover Area starting at 2pm.
We will open the gates at 1.40pm. Please only enter through the gates and not the front office.
We also ask that you do not take your children out of their other classes, if they are not involved in the concert, to watch their siblings perform. The two concerts are the same on both days, just with different classes. Due to limited space in the undercover area, only the classes performing, will be attending that day’s concert.
Teachers will inform you of your child’s required costumes for the concert. Thank you in advance for your support.

WINTER SOLSTICE PYJAMA DAY – WEEK 10 CLASS PASS
Last week, NPS celebrated our first whole school Golden time for Term 2 with each class earning their 400 Goldies through demonstrating our 4 values of Respect, Kindness, Challenge Your Self and Teamwork. Students are now working hard towards earning their next Class Pass and Golden Time, which usually takes around 5 weeks. For the Week 10 Class Passes, we are allowing all students to wear their Pyjamas for the day. The day chosen for the whole school pyjama day is on Friday 21st June, 2024 (Week 10). This is the Winter Solstice day, when the earth’s poles reach their maximum tilt away from the Sun. It is also called Midwinter; the shortest daylight of the year. A good day to snuggle up in Pyjamas.
P&C DAY – FRIDAY 24th MAY 2024 (Week 6)
This Friday is P&C Day WA. P&C Day WA was started by WACSSO in 2019 as a day for school communities to give thanks to their P&C for all their hard work and contributions. The day was celebrated by schools, parliament members, and other education stakeholders throughout Western Australia, with a range of different events being held to show appreciation for P&C members.
To our wonderful Newborough Primary School P&C, please know our school truly appreciates your efforts to support us and provide amazing community opportunities for our students. This has included (but not everything):
- Fundraising for the school: Easter raffles, Quiz Nights, Sausage Sizzles, Fetes,
- Funding for the Nature Playground
- Operation of the School Canteen and Uniform Shop
- Newbros camp out, movie nights, night walks
- Organising School Discos
- End of year activities
- Colour Run and Moort Boodja
- Scholastic Book Club
- Funding the quadrangle resurfacing
These are just a few things our amazing P&C have contributed towards Newborough Primary School.
If you see any of the amazing parents who work tirelessly for our school, please thank them over the next week. 😊
Reporting to Parents
In Week 11 of this term, the Pre-primary to Year 6 students Semester One formal reports will be sent home via email. The report will include the A to E grades (or equivalent 5 point scale) for required learning areas. Information regarding your child’s Attitude, Behaviour and Effort will also be reported on. Teachers will also include brief comments on your child’s achievement.
Mid-year reporting – Grade allocation considerations
The achievement standards articulated in the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline describes the expected achievement for students who have been taught the curriculum content for the full year of schooling.
The Semester One mid-year report involves the provision of an indicative grade allocated based on the curriculum taught and assessed to date. Grades can, and often do, fluctuate between semesters based on the curriculum complexity taught hierarchially in each year level, increased year level expectations, work completion, student attitude, effort and behaviour, student wellbeing and student absences.
If your child’s grade differs to what you would expect, it is important to consider all factors surrounding your child’s achievement. For additional information on your child’s progress, you are encouraged to make an appointment with your child’s classroom or specialist teacher.
A note to families that if a student receives a ‘C’ grade or a Satisfactory allocation, then they are achieving where they are expected to for that year level. This is good news.
Your class and specialist teachers will also let you know if your child is achieving below year level standard and if they will be receiving a Special Education Needs or modified report for your child.
Reporting to Parents – Electronic Report Delivery Semester 1, 2024
Your child’s Semester One report will be emailed out on Monday 24th June 2024. This will be before the end of the day. Please check your Trash or SPAM box first if you do not receive it by the end of the school day before contacting the school for it to be reissued.
Electronic reports mean parents are able to retain a digital record of student achievement. However, as the link to the reports only lasts for four weeks, it is vitally important that parents SAVE their child’s report ASAP.
To ensure you receive your child’s report, it is imperative that your email address is correct with the school. If there have been any changes to your email/email addresses, please contact the school immediately.
If you require a duplicate copy of the report due to different family circumstances, please email newborough.ps@education.wa.edu.au ASAP with the name of the person the report should be emailed to. Please note the person must already be on our contact system. Families who have requested this in the past should be automatically still be set up for receiving a duplicate report.

Year 6 Update
Camp Kerem!
The annual Newborough Primary School Year Six camp is a moment that all students aspire to experience throughout their journey through primary school. On Monday the thirteenth of May the graduating class of 2024 finally set off on the adventure they’d all been desperately waiting for. This year, at a new location of Camp Kerem in Bullsbrook, Ms Phillips, Mr Pemberton, Miss Cockroft, Mrs Ganapathy, Mrs Fraser and two amazing parent helpers, Mr Wade Freeman, and Mr Andrew McGuckin, were eagerly waiting for the fun to begin.
From the moment we arrived, excitement buzzed in the air, especially once we had settled into our dorms and met the Camp Kerem staff (and the Camp Kerem dogs!). Monday met us with Laser Tag, Archery, and a Treasure Hunt. Even though most of us missed the target so badly that even the arrows were asking for directions, we made it up in the treasure hunt by deciphering the code to the locked chest and winning a hefty supply of sherbet sticks. As the sun set, the thrill didn't wane; instead, the night brought ghost stories, marshmallow toasting, games, and talking after lights out galore!
On Tuesday morning it was a 50/50 split between the students who were eager to feel the adrenaline rush of the rock-climbing wall and high ropes course, and those hesitantly nibbling on their toast preparing to face their fear of heights. While the rock-climbing wall was conquered by most, the High Ropes Course had some knees wobbling and stomachs churning (even for the teachers!). To top off our morning high in the sky, we enjoyed the water works and colour war activities before letting off some steam during a game of Spotlight in the dark. While I wish I could say we enjoyed the movie evening, it should be noted that there was some considerable snoring going on - not naming names!
As Wednesday morning came around, we were able to enjoy orienteering and disc golf before we had to say our goodbyes to Camp Kerem and our newfound furry friends! The bus ride back to school gave everyone a chance to reflect on how we had challenged ourselves in new and exciting ways, strengthened friendships and formed some new ones, and, ultimately, how we lucky we all were to have such a new, beautiful memory to cherish for years to come.
A special thanks is in order for Ms Phillips, who spent months planning an absolutely brilliant camp, the staff and parents who attended, Ms Tucknott who ensured everything was going smoothly, the students who brought such positive attitudes to camp, the Camp Kerem staff who were just simply brilliant, and finally, to the parents for the generous gift they put together for all those in attendance.
Bring on Year Six Camp, 2025!
Faction Cross Country
Newborough Primary School will be holding our Faction Cross Country event this year on Tuesday, 25th June 2024. All parents and guardians are most welcome to attend but we ask you to stay in the zoned parent area. If heavy rain is forecast a date will be decided as soon as possible. The school will notify parents late on the Monday before the day by email if the carnival will be postponed. This year we will be presenting all first place and second place winners from Years 3-6 with a Champion Boy and Girl medallion and a Runner-Up Champion Boy and Girl medallion. The 3rd and 4th place getters with a ribbon. Year 1 and 2 student winners will receive 1st- 4th place ribbons, but not medallions, as our Year 1 and 2 sports program focus is on the PBW values. The faction cross-country shield will be presented at the NAIDOC Assembly on Friday 28th June. Years 3-6 students will then be chosen for the interschool Cross Country carnival. The date for this year is Friday, 26th July 2024.
