Principal’s Introduction
Welcome to 2024!
A warm welcome to our Newborough families for the 2024 school year!
Kaya (Hello) and Wanjoo (Welcome) to the entire school community. It was a wonderful atmosphere as we returned to the classroom on Wednesday when many excited young people bounded through the school gates, eager to see their friends and meet their teachers. This beautiful buzz has continued into the new week and it is wonderful to see students happily settling into the school day and getting to know a new mix of class peers.
Many thanks for the manner in which you prepared your children for the commencement of the school year. I know how much work goes into the transition into a new year and all the preparation with resources, uniforms, haircuts, new shoes and lunchboxes. Our teachers noted the calm and settled way in which the children entered classes and were ready to learn, supported by their resources across all year levels. Thank you to our community members who volunteered to sort book lists last week and make sure we were ready to start the year.
It is with enthusiasm that I join the Newborough team this term as the Acting Principal while the Principal position is being advertised. The Principal position is currently open for applications on the Jobs WA website, with a closing date of next Monday 12 February 2024. I would like to thank the school community for the incredibly warm welcome you have shown me during the past week, and I have loved getting to know families and visiting classrooms. It is such a privilege to join this outstanding school community that holds children at its heart and is filled with outstanding staff, amazing kids and wonderful families. The values of the school are evident at every level with kindness shining through in these early days of the school year.
Newborough Primary School warmly welcomes our new students, families and staff who have joined our community this year:
Sadly, we have also farewelled three staff members this week, Deb Jones (Chaplain), Kiahara Hampton (AIEO) and Laura D’Alonzo-Barkley (School Officer). We wish these staff all the best in their endeavours and thank them for their commitment to Newborough Primary School.
STUDENT LEADERS
Congratulations to our new cohort of Student Leaders for 2024. A key responsibility for our leaders is to actively demonstrate the Newborough Way through showing Respect, Kindness, Teamwork and by Challenging themselves, as well as carrying out their individual role duties to a high standard.
PARENT MEET & GREET SESSIONS
Parent information sessions will be held over the coming fortnight with five main session times. Your classroom teacher will email you in the coming few days with information and the session time for your class. During these short meet and greet sessions, staff will be outlining their classroom expectations and operations. Staff will be in the library providing supervision for students during the below times, and we ask parents to enter via the Mulberry Tree gate if you have a morning session. Please keep an eye on your email for more information from your child’s classroom teacher.
Sessions:
- Thursday 8 February from 3:00-3:30pm
- Tuesday 13 February from 8:00-8:30am
- Wednesday 14 February from 8:00 -8:30am
- Wednesday 14 February from 3:00-3.30pm
- Thursday 15 February from 3:00-3:30pm
SCHOOL ZONES
As we start back for a new year, please remember the 40km per hour school zones have also started back. These 40km/h school zones are in place to reduce road trauma for school aged children. The zones are applicable from 7.30am-9.00am and 2.30pm-4.00pm on school days and normal speeding penalties apply. If you do speed, you can expect a fine and the loss of demerit points. Please take care when driving around our school and observe the 40km/h limit for the safety of all children.
STUDENTS WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS
If your child needs medication kept at school to manage a medical condition in 2024, please make sure that you have provided the school with medication and an up-to-date action plan and where required signed by your doctor. If you have not provided the school with your child’s medical action plan and medication for 2024, please do so as a matter of urgency. If your child no longer requires medication to be kept at school, please notify the office as soon as possible.
STUDENT HEALTH SUMMARIES AND UPDATE FORMS
A reminder that Student Update Forms and Health Care Summaries should be completed and returned to the front office as soon as possible. This will ensure that the information we have on record is up to date and accurate.
